Alden Township
Land Use Plan (ATLUP)

About the Plan

The Alden Township Land Use Plan (ATLUP) is a general guide for development with significant impact in the land use decision-making process. While the ATLUP is a policy document and does not directly regulate the use of land in the Township, it is generally implemented through the enforcement of ordinances, such as the McHenry County Zoning and Subdivision ordinances, the McHenry County Stormwater Ordinance, and the decisions of the County Zoning Board of Appeals and County Board on zoning and planning matters.

In April, 2010, the McHenry County Board approved the McHenry County 2030 Comprehensive Plan which establishes a vision for McHenry County as well as a set of actionable goals and objectives that serve as a road map to realizing that vision. It provides long-range policy recommendations for the development and redevelopment of the County’s built form and physical assets as well as for the maintenance and enhancement of the County’s valued natural resources. The 2030 Plan, its vision, and recommendations are intended to serve as a general guide to regional policy and decision making over the course of the next decade and into the year 2030.

As the Land Use Plan map from the earlier McHenry County 2030 Land Use Plan currently still serves as the “official” Alden Township Land Use Map for its 2005 Land Use Plan, the Alden Township Plan Commission will be meeting to update the Alden Township Land Use Plan to reflect the new County 2030 Land Use Map.
